About Leather Construction

Leather is a premium, labor-intensive material, and here’s why:

• Leather requires specialized industrial sewing machines capable of handling its thickness and durability.
• Once pierced, leather cannot be repaired, so precision and skill are essential in the crafting process.
• Leather is sold by the hide, not by the yard, making it more difficult to size, especially for larger cushions. This can lead to waste, particularly when working with larger projects.

Custom Orders

For an accurate quote on custom cushions, please provide the following details: A) Exact measurements for each cushion (width, length, and thickness), as well as the number of cushions. If the cushions are not rectangular, please include a photo. B) Depending on the size, your cushion may require seams. Large pieces of leather are often difficult to source from a single hide, which may necessitate seams. If this is the case, I will offer decorative seam options.

Leather Care & Maintenance

To maintain the beauty of your leather cushion:

• Avoid detergents, polishes, saddle soap, or preservatives, as they can strip the natural oils from the leather.
• Regularly dust or vacuum the cushion to keep it clean.
• Keep the cushion out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and discoloration.
• In the event of a spill, blot immediately with a soft white cloth dampened in a water solution (3 parts water, 1 part mild soap). For deeper stains, use lukewarm water and a soft cloth to gently massage the area. Blot dry and allow the leather to air dry.
• Light surface scratches can often be diminished by rubbing gently with your fingertips. The heat and friction help redistribute the leather's wax, covering minor imperfections. However, deeper scratches may not fade with this method.

Composition & Construction

Our cushions are crafted from semi-aniline leather, dyed with non-toxic, transparent dyes. This method allows the natural grain and texture of the hide to shine through, giving each piece its own distinct character. Unlike heavily pigmented leather, semi-aniline leather displays natural markings and color variations that showcase its authenticity and quality.

Seaming and Stitches

For cushions larger than the size of a single hide (typically over 5-6 feet wide), seaming is necessary. This will result in a visible top stitch and may include a larger center piece with two smaller side pieces. The seams will be placed on both the top and bottom of the cushion for perfect alignment.

Note on Leather Markings

As our leather is premium, top-grain, natural markings such as brand marks, small scratches, or scars may appear. These unique characteristics are considered the "signature" of genuine leather, adding to its individuality and beauty.
